Hazelnut Milkshake Stout

Description

Submitted for Mixers Club September 2021 - Autumnal Equinox. My attempt at a hazelnut milkshake stout. This started as an attempt at multiple different porter styles, but it wasn't really working for me. I switched directions a bit and this is where I ended up. Everything here is pretty straight forward, I think. I hope you enjoy it. 🍁🍂🍻 Some extra notes while discussing this recipe in MC: "I'm glad this was just as weird a journey for you as it was for me, haha. This idea was sort of sparked one night talking about INW Dark Lager and what could be done with it. I had just tested it and I was intrigued by it. Which was surprising, as it was one of those flavors I just threw in my cart for fun. It turns out that I really enjoy it. I was also afraid to try to work with it. I have no idea which version this is, because it was all a blur. I just knew I wanted to finally use PUR Tobacco Bourbon and I thought it would work great here. Coffee and that were my first thoughts. I don't know if you've tried PUR Tobacco Bourbon, but it's neither of those things. To me it's sort of a dark, roasty flavor that bounces between extremely dark fruits and dark, almost fudgey chocolates. I landed on Cappuccino Coffee, because I find it to be a good all around coffee flavor and I feel like the Milk Froth really helped it set its ass in the mix nicely. After trying some things and finding I was having trouble thinning it out enough for a porter, I switched gears and thought hazelnut stout. I really liked the hazelnuts, because they were a little different than I'm used to tasting in a recipe. That and they didn't feel too out of place to me. I was hoping the Roasted Hazelnut would play into the Tobacco Bourbon a bit, and tried to pull it into everything else with the Hazelnuts and Cream. At this point it ended up being far too thick and dry, so I decided to try Milkshake Base and Cream, with decent results. I thought a bit of one of my recent favorites, Vanilla Cream Extra would help this one out. It did what it usually does and added something nice to this and helped push it toward creamy liquid than without it."
